The north side of the extended loop trail is where this is a direct, rugged, alternate route up Bear Mountain is located. It is a challenging scramble. The essential things after snow are corsets. The great views of the Hudson River Valley can be seen from the Perkins lookout tower. The parking lot is on the west side of Hessian Lake.
