Adams Lake Trailhead to Packers Peak

It is highly recommended that you bring a map or GPS for this hike as there is a gap between Adams lake and the ridge line trail to Packers Peak that will require trail blazing. Adams lake trail head is fairly easy to find now that they have installed a large map and sign at the trail head. The trail begins by ascending at a diagonal up the mountain and quickly turns to follow a steep ridge to gain elevation. After gaining approximately 1000 feet you will turn west and continue contour for approximately a half mile. This will bring you to a basin that Adams lake drains into. From here you will ascend the basin following the drainage up to Adams lake, where there are many flat spots for camping. Once you are ready to hike to Packers Peak you will climb the north side of the rocky scree to the west of the lake (avoid the scree itself, it is very shifty). After you get to the edge of the basin you will continue to climb in a diagonal SSW direction toward the old cabin at the springs on the ridge line. Once you have reached the cabin, you will find the trail that will take you all the way to Packers Peak. From the cabin, the trail heads almost directly south and stays on the west side of the ridge. It can be hard to follow at times but animals seem to use it regularly so it stays visible.
