About This Trail

The Easter Shore of Virginia and Maryland is home to Assateauge Island. It remains unchanged and unimproved by man and is home to a wide variety of animals, including birds and the famous Chincoteague Ponies. Multiple use trails, a beach, and an educational visitor center can be found on Chincoteauge Island. There is no camping on the VA side of Assteague, but there is camping on the Maryland side. The Trail can be hiked in 1-2 hours. This is a paved multi-use trail which is easy to use and have nice views. The refuge can be purchased on a weekly or annual basis. The military is free. An annual National Parks Pass is available if you show an ID Card.
