About This Trail
The rail trail west of Saltsburg needs a lot of work. The mile of trail through Saltsburg is a fine surface trail and contains a number of interpretive signs. The location of Lock #8 of the Pennsylvania Mainline Canal is on the National Register of Historic Places. The trail is not developed north of the bridge. The next mile contains puddles, ruts, ditches and the like. The trail runs along an abandoned rail after that. It is a paved private road after the rail yard. It is in some of the earliest stages of the trail that long term hopes are for it to connect to the Roaring Run Trail. This needs a lot of work for now.
