About This Trail
The trail is open, but the cave is closed. It is said to be the only true cave in Connecticut that is open to the public. The story of a loyalist to the English monarchy hiding in a cave is what inspired its name. The cave has two entrances, one of which is commanding. If you like spelunking, you'll love it. It could be difficult if you attempt the first cave descent. It's important to know that the cave can be closed at times due to the bat population. It is usually closed in November and April. It is important that you respect the signs posted regarding the bats in order to give them the best chance of survival.
