The University of Virginia-Wise Wetlands Interpretive Trail gives an overview of a constructed wetlands site with a mixed hardwood forest on the campus of the University of Virginia's College at Wise. There are multiple examples of the history and ecology of the area, as related to past coal mining activities. This site provides a great overview of the wildlife in the wetlands.
