Spy Rock and The Priest

This is a great one-day through hike, ideal for a small group. You can leave a vehicle at the AT crossing on Route 56 and then park in the gravel lot just beyond the Montebello Fish Hatchery. The first part of the hike is along private property so be respectful. At about 1 mile in, turn left to connect with the AT towards Spy Rock. About half a mile later, arrive at Spy Rock. There are a few ways to scramble to the top and the effort is rewarded with 360 degree views of the surrounding ranges, including the Priest - your next destination. After Spy Rock, pay close attention to signs to get back on the AT heading towards The Priest as several trails converge and can be confusing. The next section is mostly along the ridge line and elevation changes are gradual. The Priest affords equally spectacular views, if not 360 degrees as at Spy Rock. This is a very popular destination and you will almost certainly have company (both two and four-legged) at the best vantage points. The remaining section continues briefly along the ridge line before beginning a steady descent to the parking area at Route 56.
