Roznos Meadow Trail

This trail is a hidden gem in Devil's lake state park, and is part of the Ice Age trail system in Wisconsin. The trail head starts at a dirt parking lot on state Hwy 113. Note there are no facilities. From the parking lot you have a panoramic view of Devils lake state park: south bluff to the left, the terminal moraine from the Wisconsin ice age that plugged devils lake in the middle, and the popular north bluff to the right. The lake itself is invisible. The first half of the trail travels west into a vast flat meadow with tall grasses around you. Along the way the trail climbs a few sand dunes dotted with little oak trees. The bluffs keep getting bigger and closer as you travel. This portion of the trail is in general flat and easy, and ends when it crosses South Lake Road. Once you cross the road, the trail enters deciduous forest and starts to climb the east bluff in earnest. This second half of the trail has a slope ranging from easy to moderate. There are no obstacles on the trail (thanks volunteers!). You will hike along a little creek and pass a few house-sized boulders near the trail. Before long the trail ends and connects with the Uplands trail in Devil's lake state park. Keep hiking to the left (south) and soon there will be filtered view of Lake Wisconsin and the south bluff. Unfortunately, there is no clear view point unless you hike further west near Devil's doorway.
