About This Trail

Imported description

Racetrack Valley Road is a gravel road that goes from Ubehebe Crater to the Racetrack Playa in Death Valley, which is not often seen. You will drive through mountain passes, a Joshua Tree forest and desert valleys. There are several side trails and 4x4 paths that go off the route. The Playa is one of the most unique places in the park. The gravel road is prone to wash-outs and sharp rocks. If the road is good, a 2WD SUV or truck can navigate it, but anything less is not recommended. The road is remote and lightly traveled, so be sure to follow good back country safety practices. It is expected to take half a day to reach the Playa. The road crosses the mountains and becomes very rocky if you don't have 4WD.
