Pyramid Peak

Pyramid Peak is an infrequently climbed peak in the Death Valley Funeral Mountain Range with fantastic views. Some experience needed to enjoy this hike and the scrambling/scree sections. The "standard" route for this hike is from the eastern-most face of the mountain, which is distinct from the Pyramid Canyon hike that travels towards the western side of Pyramid Peak. Park around highway mile maker 129 on CA-190, there is actually a small paved pull-off on the southern side of the road. There is no discernible trailhead, but the route starts cross-country headed north towards the eastern edge of Pyramid Peak. The mountain is deceptively far away, and the hiking portion begins from a dry wash up to a saddle which is where you can first start to see actual cairns. The real altitude gain begins in the last ~2 miles, gaining about 3,700 ft. Hiking is mostly on steep scree with some scrambling. Views of Telescope peak and Death Valley are outstanding the whole way up. Trail is challenging to find at some parts. There is a register at the summit, and despite being peak season, the last people to summit was about a week prior. So if you want isolation with great views, this is an excellent hike! Route down was challenging given steepness and loose scree. Allow plenty of time for this hike.
