About This Trail
When the gate to the trailhead is closed, you will have to hike an additional 2 miles each way to and from the trailhead. The loop trail goes through lava fields and dense forest, offering views of two waterfalls. The canyon was cut out by glaciers 6,000 years ago. The valley floor was filled with lava from cinder cones. The water falls over the cliff and into the lava, which sinks back underground, making it appear as if the water is gone.
