About This Trail
The Conservancy manages 1,500 feet of shoreline around the 99-acre pond, a rarity in Vermont. The southern end of the lake has a cedar swamp with little to no understory. A mossy carpet covers the forest floor. The common loon and the river otter can be found in Long Pond, which is surrounded by a forest. The swamp, lake, and surrounding forests support several bird species. The cedar swamp provides winter cover for mammals, such as voles and mice.
