North Cypress Non-Motorized Trail

This is an easy 3.3 mile loop located in the Holly Springs National Forest in North Mississippi. This trail is located in the Holly Springs National Forest and loops around North Cypress Lake. Only hikers, bikers and equestrians are allowed on the trail. The forest service has gravel along some the path that follows a hilly terrain under an umbrella of Loblolly & Shortleaf pine and numerous White Oaks. Several grassy wildlife opening can be found along the trail. The Holly Springs National Forest was formed from small parcels of eroded, depleted and abandoned farm land during the 1930's. The Civilian Conservation Corps replanted the farm land with Loblolly Pines. One particularly interesting wildlife opening halfway around the trail features daffodils and remnants of an old home place that existed before the US Forest Service purchased the land during the great depression. In the spring look for the red blooms of Red Buckeye trees, some amazingly large, and during the summer look for the sumac around the sunny areas.
