Mount Fitzpatrick

Mount Fitzpatrick is the highest peak in the Salt River Range of the Bridger Teton Forest. The trail starts at the Crow Creek Trailhead, merges into the Way trail after approx 4 miles, then V's off to the west a little over a half mile later and climbs for a half mile through the cliffs. The trail then heads southerly again for about 1 mile to the lower crow creek lake. The total distance to the Lower Crow Creek Lake is 6 miles. Mount Fitzpatrick is approx another 2.5 miles. From this point the trail basically ends. From the Lake, climb north through the trees until able to head westerly again to get past the cliffs west of the lower lake. Pass the north side of the upper crow creek lake and travel westerly up the canyon until you reach the center base of the canyons final steep slopes. From here you scramble up the steep slope to the ridge between the pseudo peak to the north and Mount Fitzpatrick to the south. Head south along the ridge until you reach the base of the Peak. From here it is a literal four point scramble up the loose slate to the peak. To the north you will have great views along the Salt River and Wyoming Ranges, and on clear days the Tetons can be seen at about 70 miles away. To the northeast and east are Mount McDougal and Triple Peaks. To the southeast is Wyoming Peak and Mount Coffin. All of these peaks belong to the Wyoming Range. To the south are more of the Salt River and Wyoming ranges. To the southwest, Red Top Mountain and Wagner Peak can be seen. To the west small parts of Star Valley can be seen along with Swift Creek Lake. To the Northwest you can view Rock Lake and Haystack Peaks.
