Manaticut Point and Overlook Rock Trail

Short, steep hike to an outstanding overlook. Stream crossing. This is a short, but steep hike up a little used and under appreciated trail to a nice overlook. Because it isn't popular, it can be overgrown at times and poorly blazed (re-blazing is being planned). Catch the blue blazed Hewitt-Butler trail at the end of the metal guardrail. It descends to West Brook, where crossing can be difficult when the water is high. After crossing the brook it begins a gentle climb to a woods road. The trail turns onto the woods road which soon peters out and the trail turns north and begins to climb the hill. First gently, then quite steeply. You'll start to see views through the trees to your right. The trail flattens out for a few minutes, then begins the final ascent to Tip Top Point, which involves some rock scrambles that shouldn't too difficult but may require all fours. Reaching the top there is an excellent view to the east marred somewhat by the scar of a quarry. Return the way you came, or continue on the HB trail for a longer hike.
