About This Trail

Imported description
Worlds End Trail is a yellow blazed 3.7 mile trail beginning at the park office. The trail runs concurrent with the Loyalsock Trail from the park office to Pioneer Road. From the park office the trail crosses PA 154 and weaves through a picnic area then climbs steeply to Worlds End Vista. The vista overlooks the swimming area. The damage to the trees in this area was caused by a tornado in April 2019. At Pioneer Road the Loyalsock Trail turns left (LT mile 45.57) and the Worlds End Trail goes right briefly before turning left to continue the steep climb up the mountain. At a stone walled switchback the climb continues but eases. The climb subsides at .7. After merging with a blue blazed x-country ski trail both continue on a grassy road staying relatively steady for several miles. This area was timbered several decades ago. The fields along the roads are areas where the logs were stacked before going to the sawmills. A small waterfall can be seen to the left at 1.2 miles. At 2.0 wetlands can be seen along the trail. The wetlands are the headwaters of one of the tributaries to Scar Run. At 2.8 the trail merges with a stone forestry road. The trail turns left towards a yellow gate then abruptly right onto a single track trail through a pine forest. The pines were planted to reclaim the mining activity in this area. Pieces of coal can be found on the treadway. This historic area is worth exploring. The trail crosses a few tributaries of Scar Run and meanders through the pines. At 3.5 the trail crosses Coal Mine Road and follows a yellow gated woods road. This road is also a blue blazed x-country ski trail. The trail ends as it intersects the Loyalsock Trail (LT mile 37.7). Several hiking loops can be created by using the Worlds End Trail in conjunction with the Loyalsock Trail, Coal Mine Road and/or the various x-country ski trails in the area.
