About This Trail

Imported description
On the "Maples Trail" is where the route begins. A short time is spent under a cliff through boulders. A primitive road crosses a river below a canopy of maples. The ornate carved cliffs of "The Grotto" are attractions. Some "rock 'n Roll" can be provided by a steep, rock-covered ascent to the caprock. It was an overlook of the central valley entry of the park. It is possible to see the Can Creek canyon and the campground at "The Pond" down a sheer cliff. The road descending to The Pond is steep. It goes over the dam and past a few small waterfalls. You can go back to the picnic grounds on a primitive road, but first you need to cross Can Creek to see the hawk's nest. There is a site of annual volksmarch.
