About This Trail

The ultimate experience is walking up the street to the famous spot and taking the stairs. Lombard Street is not the "crookedest street" in San Francisco, and it is not the "stiffest street" in the world. The famous street is built with eight switchbacks on a 40- degree slope. The main attraction of Lombard Street is watching people drive down the crooked one-block section. On a busy day, a seemingly-endless stream of automobiles and scooters buzz down, their passengers screaming in mock fear at every turn. If you're on foot, you can walk down the sidewalk and watch the show.
