Explore the wonders of of Johnson Branch on walking, hiking, and biking trails. Enjoy camping, boating, and fishing. Ray Roberts Lake State Park is a beautiful 30,000-acre lake complex complete with boat ramps, camping, fishing, a swimming beaches, numerous hiking trails, equestrian trails, Dorba mountain bike trails, hotel, marina and a park store. Most of Ray Roberts Lake State Park is located in northern Denton County. The Ray Roberts Lake State Park Complex consists of two state park units (Isle du Bois and Johnson Branch), six satellite parks (Jordan Unit, Pond Creek, Pecan Creek, Buck Creek, Sanger, and Elm Fork), Wildlife Management Areas, wetlands, waterfowl sanctuaries and the 20 mile Ray Roberts Lake/Lake Lewisville Greenbelt Corridor. The Johnson Branch Unit is set amid a mixed forest and prairie environment. In addition to 165 campsites on the lake, Johnson Branch includes boat ramps, group pavilions, and numerous mountain-bike trails, primitive camping, and great fishing opportunities. The park offers complete water recreation activities: fishing, boating, waterskiing, personal watercraft, sailing, and swimming. The park store rents canoes and kayaks. Camp at tree-shaded sites and watch the sunset on the lake and deer from your picnic table. Since Johnson Branch is on a peninsula, it has both east and west-facing shoreline that allows visitors to sit in the peaceful evening and watch brilliant red and deep blue sunrises and sunsets over the water. Hiking and biking trails meander through the woodlands and offer great opportunities for wildlife and bird viewing. The park's natural setting is a habitat that is home to many different species of birds.
