About This Trail

FortNorton was the location of Jackson Hill, an earthen fortification system that defended Rome during the Civil War. The Works Progress Administration redeveloped the area during the Great Depression, which included the Rome Civic Center, an amphitheater, and several rock bridges. The trails are just blocks from Downtown Rome. The Boswell Cabin Trailhead, a cotton gin, replicas of Civil War-era cannons, and a Corliss steam engine are all outdoor exhibits. The Civil War in Rome was told by interpretive markers. The parking lot is located at the Rome-Floyd Visitor Center.
