Independence Grove Trail Loop

The preserve offers a variety of opportunities for outdoor recreation and nature education. Affirmative: The prairie and woodland surroundings give a scenic backdrop for hiking, biking, picnicking and other fun activities. The trails circle the lake and go through beautiful natural areas. There are a number of trails on the north side of the preserve and a small part of the Des Plaines River Trail. The South Bay Trail loop and the 2.5 mile Overlook trail are very steep and have been described as Paved. The North Bay Trail loop features paved and gravel roads. There's a separate entrance to the dog park at the north end of Route 137.
