Fullbright Park to Ahtanum Ridge

This short yet stout hike is a local favorite for quick incline training and unique unobstructed views of Union Gap, Yakima, Moxee and beyond. Trekking poles are recommended for balance. Starting out at the entrance to the Central Washington Museum of Agriculture at Fullbright Park, Follow the crushed gravel ramp towards a canyon entrance containing a dirt path and a simple sign: 'Trail Head'. Enter the sagebrush-filled canyon and start an initial short climb onto a bench and a Y-intersection. Turn right (South) and begin climbing up the dirt trail towards the top of Ahtanum Ridge. There are two sections on this trail with steep inclines and loose dirt, take note of these as you'll need to pay particular attention to your footing on the return to your car. At about 0.5 mile, you will have reached the rocky outcrop. From here, you can either soak in the views of the surrounding valley and Rattlesnake Ridge to your east, or explore the other trail options visible from this spot. To return, trace your steps back to your car.
