About This Trail
The Belgrade Regional Conservation Alliance manages French Mountain, a 0.8 mile interpretive trail in Rome, ME. You can take an audio tour of the mountain's natural history with your cell phone. The trail goes east from the road and then goes south to reach a rocky precipice with stunning views of Long Pond. The first views of the summit are from the east, with Rome Corner to the northeast and Long Pond to the southeast. The trail goes along the open rocks until it ends above the cliffs. You can see Great Pond, The Mountain, and Belgrade Lakes Village from here. Turkey vultures roost in French Mountain and can be seen riding the thermals overhead looking for a meal.
