E. C. Lawrence Woodland Trail

In 2004, the Fairfax County Park Authority created a stone dust trail that runs south from Walney Park Rd to Henry Pond Ct. The main purpose of this trail was to provide an easy way for park management to monitor potential damage to a historic stone wall that runs the length of the property, but it was also intended to remain open for public use. In the late summer of 2004, somebody (possibly from one of the adjoining neighborhoods) cleared a trail through a beautiful section of woods, adjoining the existing maintenance trail. In doing so, they damaged a section of the wall. Though park management was not pleased with this action (which, technically, was at best vandalism), they recognized the desire for people to have a quiet path through the woods.  About a year later, the FCPA closed off a couple of sections, but then significantly extended the trail in a much wider loop to the north. It's been fairly well maintained ever since, with occasional trimming of plants, clearing of fallen trees, and surfacing with mulch. Additionally, 4 benches (or so) have been placed along the length of the trail. If you visit, please enjoy the views, but don't damage the stone wall or venture too far off the trail. Wildlife seen in this section of the woods include squirrels, deer, foxes, skunks, turkey, and (possibly) even coyotes! Enjoy!
