About This Trail

Imported description
This loop trail offers excellent views with minimal effort. There are spots where it is close enough to I-17 that traffic noise can be heard overhead, but overall the trail is very quiet and seldom used. The surface is very smooth and can be hiked in a good pair of walking shoes. Temperatures in the area during the June through September can reach 105 degrees on hot afternoons, so summer hiking should be done in the early morning. It can be hiked in either direction, but the trail description is for the counterclockwise direction. The trail begins with a one mile section of moderate switchbacks then levels out as it moves along the ridge line. The best views are in this area. Some of this portion is very close to the edge of recent landslides, so exercise some caution, especially with children. The trail begins descending and at 2.6 miles crosses a dry creek bed. Turn left to go back to the parking lot along a level stretch for 1.3 miles or turn right for a side trip to a waterfall. The waterfall is spring fed and runs most of the time. The trail back to it is very rocky and requires some scrambling and water crossing. Boots are highly recommended on this short spur.
