About This Trail
Major Pierson B. was very soon after the discovery of gold. Reading found gold on Clear Creek. For 130 years, mining continued in one form or another. The creek was turned upside down. Clear Creek now hosts large numbers of spawning fall chinook due to the successful restoration of its salmon runs. The best place to see this spawning is at the Gorge Overlook, but you can also see it at several other sites. If salmon spawning season is not in the picture, you can still enjoy some of the earliest gold working features in California.
