About This Trail
The hills of Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve are ideal for hiking, birdwatching and other outdoor adventures. It wasn't always like this, as the coal economy ruled the region in the 1800s. The miners moved on when the coal ran out. They dug sand for a glassmaker after years of mining. Black Diamond Mines has a lot of tours of the old sand mines. The route starts in the parking lot of the old Somersville town site and goes on to the Rose Hill Cemetery and then on toNortonville.
