About This Trail

Imported description
As of May 31, 2019, this trail is open for use and no longer closed because of the pine-bark beetle. Buck Trail bisects the Natural Area. Traveling east to west, it is situated on the highest elevations in the park, providing some of the most spectacular views of the valleys to the north. You are truly in the barrens when hiking this trail. The trail also features several abandon mine pits. Road access is available on the west end, while the east end is accessible from other trails that connect it to the parking lot. Chrome Trail leaves the parking lot then connects to Doe Trail, then Buck trail or the extreme end of Buck Trail by way of the Fire Break Trails. The transition from the Doe Trail to the Buck Trail is not identified via a directional sign post or blaze marks; therefore it is important to monitor the map and your location as you proceed. The trail system can be complicated to first time visitors, but makes for an interesting hike. The Serpentine Barons are definitely different than any other hikes in this general area, and worth a look. The history of the mines adds an element of intrigue.
