Allegan Forest Loop - A,K,L,P signs

This trail is designated as a bike/x-country ski trail, however there are plenty of walkers on the trail. Dogs should be on a leash from April 1 - July 9 because of animal nesting. The trail starts at the Allegan State Game Area Headquarters behind the buildings. The first marker you come to will be the "A", heading on the trail to the left will take you near South Swan Creek. At the next intersection, a right will take you along side Swan Creek. Occasional trails will lead down to Swan Creek to to South Swan Creek hiking trail. This trail stays on the creek ridge and is generally flat. After a mile or so into the trail, the hiking trail merges with this trail and you will see yellow splashes on the trees indicating a hiking trail. After about two miles you will come to a red metal gate with a parking area. To stay on this trail, continue across 116th Avenue to another red metal gate, which you pass through. Continue on this trail until you come to a post, which indicates the "L" sign. To the left is an extension of the trail and to the right is a downhill (great for x-country skiing). Go to the right, down the hill through a small meadow and then back into the forest. At a point the hiking trail will head to the left (marked with yellow splashes) and this trail continues straight marked with blue splashes on the trees. Springtime displays many dogwood trees. The trail continues to the "P" sign and staying to the right takes you back to the "A" sign and then to the headquarters.
