About

Imported description
Overview  The Cottonwood Field Office (CFO) manages just over 131,000 acres of public lands. The CFO manages robust recreation, forestry, and fuels programs. Additionally, fisheries, wildlife, and cultural resources are a strong focus of the office. The CFO manages the 112-mile stretch of the Lower Salmon River from Vinegar Creek to its confluence with the Snake River. The Lower Salmon River corridor boasts remarkable canyons, white sandy beaches, and thrilling whitewater adventures for visitors. The CFO also manages a portion of the land on the main stem of the Clearwater River. The Clearwater River is famous for the large "B-run" steelhead and spring Chinook salmon, which attract anglers worldwide. The use of the river has evolved from a half-hidden location for anglers to a summer stop for innertubers, kayakers, and other boaters. Portions of the Nez Perce (Nee-Me-Poo) National Historic Trail cross the CFO. The 1,170-mile-long trail stretches from eastern Oregon to Montana and sustained tribal members with ample fishing, hunting, and native plants as they traveled from their homelands in the late 1800s.
