Cherokee National Forest

The largest tract of public land in Tennessee, Cherokee National Forest encompasses over 655,000 acres flanking both sides of Great Smoky Mountains National Park along the Tennessee-North Carolina border. The forest stretches from the Virginia state line near Bristol southward to Georgia, protecting Southern Appalachian hardwood forest, ancient spruce-fir stands, and some of the most biodiverse temperate ecosystems on Earth.
