About

ABOUT: Sheriff Reservoir Campground is located in Yampa, CO and hosts 6 small sites in a tightly forested loop. The area offers fabulous lake and stream fishing for trout. Shore and dam is easily accesible by foot or by car and can accomodate canoes, belly boats and fishing boats. Although the actual campsites do not offer lakeside camping or views of the Flat Tops, the reservoir is within walking distance outside of the campground and does offer a beautiful view of the Flat Tops. The campground can accomodate trailers up to 17 feet, if camping with larger trailer or camper, there are numerous dispersed camping opportunities located along the 4 mile stretch that leads to the campground. BOAT REGULATIONS : Electric trolling motors are allowed. Internal combustion engines are not allowed. (Combustion engines only allowed at Yamcolo Reservoir). AMENITIES: One vault toilet, most camp sites offer an open fire grate (with no grill on top) Please note: There is no potable water, or picnic tables. HIKING NEARBY: Black Mountain Creek Trail 1117 can be accessed just opposite of the Sheriff Reservoir Dam. See Black Mountain Creek under the hiking tab for highlights and more information. DIRECTIONS: Follow County Road 17 (the Scenic Byway Flat Tops Trail towards Dunckley Pass) to County Rd 132, 5 miles. Follow 132 west to CTY Rd 8. Continue west to Sheriff Reservoir, Road 950, 6 miles. Turn left on 959 heading south, there will be a sign to Sheriff Reservoir Campground. Follow approximately 4 miles until you see the Reservoir on the left side. FIRE RESTRICTIONS: Current as of August 3, We are still under a Stage 1 fire restriction. Camp fires are ONLY allowed in the permanent fire grates at the designated campsites/campgrounds. NO back country fires allowed, NO rock ring fires, (must use the permanent structure fire grates at the designated sites only) NO charcoal grills allowed. NO smoking outside allowed. PLEASE NOTE; THERE IS NO WATER AT THE CAMPGROUND. COME PREPARED WITH EXTRA WATER TO PUT YOUR FIRE OUT COLD.
