About
The wilderness is in southwestern Maricopa County, which is 12 miles from the nearest city. It contains a 10 mile section of the mountains, a low elevation desert range, and extensive desert plains. The North Maricopa Mountains have ridges and peaks. The plants of the Sonoran Desert are included in the vegetation. The wilderness has desert bighorn sheep, desert tortoise, coyotes, bobcat, fox, deer, Gambel's quail and raptor. There are two bush trails that lead to the heart of the NorthMaricopa Mountains.
