About

The wilderness is in southwestern Phoenix, Arizona and is 12 miles east of Aris said to lie in the east. It spans a large portion of the Sonoran Desert range and its surrounding desert plains. There are long ridges and isolated peaks separated by bajadas. It includes sGuaro, cholla, ocotillo and other plant species. There are large animal species in the wilderness, such as bighorn sheep, desert tortoise, cats, lizards, deer, and Gambel's quail. The wilderness offers many opportunities for solitude and primitive recreation. The west side of the mountain is covered in the heart of the North Maricopa Mountains Wilderness.
