Escape the crowds and theme parks for a day and enjoy Florida's premier rail trail for over 45 miles of pure pleasure. When most people think of Florida, they think of theme parks, beaches, and citrus groves. But to get to know the real Sunshine State, there's nothing like exploring a 46 mile rail-trail that cuts through the heart of the real Florida. The Withlacoochee State Trail runs through abandoned orange groves and through communities that have seen booms and busts and remained true to the spirit of the south. Located between the theme parks of Orlando and the beaches of the Gulf Coast, the Withlacoochee is the perfect getaway... the perfect stopover when going from here to there. After riding on theme park rides, watching dinner shows, and hanging out with cartoon characters, the Withlacoochee provides relaxation, fresh air, exercise, and a slower pace. It also allows trail users to meet real Floridians and see the land the way it once was. The trail is extremely well paved and as flat as a proverbial pancake. Beside the paved trail is an equestrian trail for our horse-loving fans. So when it comes to biking, hiking, horseback riding, or inline skating, it's ideal for all ranges of fitness; but it's especially suited to families. Rent some bikes (Try a tandem or recumbent or even a tandem recumbent.) and spend some quality time together. You'll marvel at the moss-laden trees, the pokey turtles, and the hospitality of the shop-owners. You won't care whether you ride all 46 miles of the trail or just six of them. It doesn't really matter. It's the fun and freedom that you'll remember. It's just you, the trail, and a whole lot of Florida.
