About This Trail
The trail goes down the ravine to the cave. If there is a chance of flash flooding, do not enter the trails. To find the cave, cross the footbridge and follow the ravine to the right and then the river. The conditions are overgrown and rocky. The cave is located on the left side above the dry stream bed. It's about 6 feet high for the first 10 feet, then descends to a crawling height of 20 feet. Carved signatures dating back to the 19th century can be seen at the entrance. The cave smells of an animal. It is necessary to bring a flashlight, gloves and knee pads for crawling. There is a book called "Iowa Underground: A Guide to the State's Subterranean Treasures" which is free to view.
