About This Trail

Imported description
The heart of the gold country is the Auburn State Recreation Area, which covers 40 miles of the American river. The area used to be a hive of gold miners and now has over one million visitors a year. Major recreational uses include hiking, swimming, boating, fishing, camping, mountain biking, gold panning, equestrian/ horseback riding trails and off-highway motorcycle riding. Class II, III and IV Whitewater is very popular on both forks of the river. Private whitewater trips are available in the SRA. The lands set aside for the Auburn Dam are the basis of the SRA. California State Parks is in charge of the area.
