The Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial was built in honor of Abraham Lincoln, who lived from age 7 to 21. The Lincoln Boyhood Trail begins near the visitor center and includes historical sites along the way, including the Pioneer Cemetery where Lincoln's mother is buried, the memorial grounds for Lincoln's childhood cabin, and a re-creation of the homestead. The Trail of Twelve Stones is connected to the Lincoln Boyhood Trail. The Trail of Twelve Stones contains historical stones taken from buildings and structures to commemorate important events in Lincoln's life and career.
