About This Trail

The boardwalk and trail are in honor of our 26th President. The Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Association dedicated the island to the public in memory of Roosevelt. The Civilian Corps and Frederick Law Olmstead, Jr. worked to bring a neglected island into a mature woodland sanctuary. The memorial was designed by architect Eric Gugler and the central statue was created by sculptor Paul Manship. The dedication ceremony took place in 1967. The island has a lot of different things to tell it. Evidence shows that the island was used as a fishing village. The site was named "My Lord's Island" when King Charles granted it to Lord Baltimore. The National Park Service protects the island. You can enjoy the sounds of the outdoors while you are here.
