About This Trail
The Brumley Mountain Trail runs from Hayter's Gap to Middle Knob and is one of the East's newest long hiking trails. The most heavily used part of the trail goes to the Great Channels of Virginia from Hayter's Gap. The Channels are a series of deep sandstone crevices that are found on the mountain's summit. It is possible to walk within the maze-like channels, which have an almost cave-like microclimate and can hold snow cover after temperatures have risen above freezing. One of southwest Virginia's most scenic and popular hiking destinations can be found at the top of these outcrops and firetower.
