About This Trail

Imported description
This hike is on an access road called Silver Dollar Lane for the Smith Mountain Wildlife Management Area. The beginning section is open seasonally to motorized vehicles in to about 2 miles where there is another parking area and non-motorized access beyond (used to access cell towers on top of mountain). This is land owned by the Residents of Virginia and is primarily used for Hunting and wildlife observation. Hiking, Horseback Riding, Biking and Primitive Camping are other uses for this area. Wearing Blaze Orange is important especially during hunting seasons. From the parking area located just off Tolers Ferry Rd, it is a easy hike on a dirt/gravel road that leads to the top of Smith Mountain where there are three communication towers. Beyond the towers is another gate that leads in to a non-maintained road that eventually will lead to the Smith Mountain Lake Dam/Visitors Center. I have not walked this section of the road (next time in I plan to walk this section), access may be restricted as you approach the dam area owned by Application Power Company.
