About This Trail
The south side of the river is maintained in a natural state. Hiking is limited to established trails to protect rare plants. There is no vehicle access or camping at the falls, but there is a footbridge that connects the falls to the north side of the park. The north side of the river has picnic sites, tent camping, restrooms, concession, and pay showers. Smith Falls State Park has primitive camping that is reservable one year in advance. The Niobrara National Scenic River is straddled by the Smith Falls campground. The north side of the river has picnic sites, tent camping, restrooms, concession, and pay showers. There are no RV facilities available. The park protects the biological and scenic significance of the location while allowing the public to view the state's highest waterfall.
