Silver Mountain Trail

Trailhead is off of South Road in Lempster. If your car doesn’t have four-wheel drive and/or high clearance, you may want to park a little before the trailhead, as the road can be somewhat rough. It depends on the weather and time of year too, so use your judgment. The trail, marked with yellow blazes, begins to the left of a boarded up cabin. It ascends on a wide old road at easy to moderate grades for around a quarter of a mile before bearing off to the right, still following the yellow blazes. After another few minutes, the yellow blazes branch off to the left, on a moderate ascent. After flattening out briefly, the trail continues on its climb. Not long after this, bits of open ledge become visible, and you start seeing signs of the summit. Eventually the trail emerges onto open rock with views to the south and east. The trail goes through a less open section before reaching the summit. The summit has a near 360-degree vista, with the exception of the view north. Much of the Green Mountains (and many ski mountains) in Vermont are visible, as well as Mount Ascutney. You can also see a good portion of the Monadnock region, including Mount Monadnock itself. Lovewell Mountain is visible to the east/northeast. When you are done admiring the view, hike back down the way you came.
