About This Trail

It was a difficult hike to the summit of the desert peak. Be prepared for a lot of bushwhacking and difficult route finding. It is possible to get to the saddle from the parking lot, which is located north of the main summit. The north gullies will be your destination after about 1.3 miles of bush whacking. You will see a trail that leads to the main saddle. The best place to start is at the southwest face of the summit peak. Go down the steep slope to the top. The last viable population of desert bighorn sheep to the Tucson basin is on Ragged Top Mountain. Humans can affect the population dynamics by interfering with sheep during breeding and lambing seasons. The lambing season occurs in February, so time your hike accordingly.
