About This Trail
The terrain has great features. The state forest is over a thousand acres. It is located in New Fairfield and Sherman. The main block of the forest rises steeply from the western shore. The forest was acquired for $10 per acre in the 1920s. The Civilian Conservation Corps established a work camp at Squantz Pond State Park. The forest was very active in the CCC. They planted trees, built roads, built fire ponds, and did forest thinning to produce firewood.
