About This Trail

There are intermittent segments on the Natchez trace trail that are independent hiking trails. The Old Trace Walk trail follows a ridge 300 feet above the Duck River and is preserved for 2000 feet. The short section is supported by a parking lot. The trail is actually called the "old trace walk". The trail was restored decades ago and shows it as a road on the satellite view. This was never used as a road. It is a great short trail for people with limited mobility, but they would like to actually hike part of the original route. The travelers in the 1800's had to make 20 to 30 miles a day on foot or horseback.
