Old Quarry Road Trail

The forest preserve complex is located at a crook in the river and is interesting to many different people. The focus of activities is to the beautiful stretch of river and valley and includes woodland, picnicking, fishing, bird watching, lounging along the shore and skipping rocks in the river with stones from the old gravel pit hills. This is a major trail hub and stopping point. There are exposed rock ledges and prairie remnants. There is an old Indian War soldier's grave site marked by a boulder hidden in a small grove of trees, but most exciting is the little known and unexploited 8 foot high natural waterfall.
