About This Trail
The trail was built by the Eastern Railroad. It is the most popular trail for hiking. The trail begins near the gift shop and goes to the trail behind the lodge. The trail is steep from here, but at the top of the limestone steps it is level. The Civilian Corps built three trail shelters along this trail in the 1930s. The trail goes through a forest of hemlock, tulip tree, white pine, and thickets of rhododendron. It ends beneath the bridge. The top of the bridge is accessible through a natural fissure on the arch. The elevation change was over 400 feet.
