About This Trail

Imported description
Mud Pond mountain is located in Cedarlands Conservation Easement Tract, Long Lake, NY. The 4,890-acre Cedarlands Conservation Easement Tract is part of the Conservation Easement Lands of the Adirondacks. A conservation easement is a partnership with the private landowner that allows public access while protecting open space by limiting development. The lands are currently privately owned by the Boy Scouts of America (Although at the time of this posting, they are currently up for sale). There is no public use of the adjacent Boy Scount Base Camp Area at this time. The central features of the area are two water bodies, Mud Pond and McRorie Lake (previously known as Rock Pond). There are also two prominent mountains, Mud Pond Mountain and Rock Pond Mountain. The public portion of the easement lands is divided into two areas. The 590-acre Mud Pond Area is open for public use year-round. While the 3,300-acre McRorie Lake Area is open to public use for ten months of the year. The area is closed to the public from June 24 to August 23. The public is not allowed to enter the gravel mining area in the Mud Pond Area. In order to get to Mud Pond Mountain, you will need to park in the designated parking and hike the 5.8 miles round trip. The trail is well marked. You will need to pay close attention for the Mud Pond Mountain trailhead marker to the summit on your left near the halfway point. The sign says "OA Trailhead" (Order of the Arrow) - a name the boy scouts gave to the mountain. Along the way, you will pass by Mud Pond and McRorie Lake outlet. The GPS coordinates / Route will take you all the way to the summit. However, there are coordinates for the Lookout as well.
