About This Trail
The Coonville Creek Natural Area contains a trail that goes down the valley of Coonville Creek. It is well maintained and marked. It takes us back to Coonville Creek. It could be difficult to cross several creek crossings during wet weather. There are also moderate uphill climbs. The largest park in the USA has a scenic trail called the MoonersHollow Trail that begins in the narrow valley of Coonville Creek. The past activity of moonshiners is the reason for the trail's name. The location for their stills was the Coonville Creeks, which had cold, clear springs and deep isolated valleys. Hikers will find a number of steep hills, a few water crossing, and dolomite glades. You can call the park office to find out when the trail is closed.
